WORKING ON MACRO

Macro is a large area to cover, and a lot of hard work has gone into the making of our logbooks. Sketching and design intervention are the areas on which we have to lay stress upon. I have tried to improve my sketching in this module, as i am not perfect in it. I have tried to cover all the main points through sketching, like street view of hauz khas,social culture ,environment etc. Now my macro area is heading towards the end and i will be starting with my micro from now onwards.

                3D MODEL ABOUT HAUS KHAS 😍

4th week and we have started with our 3D model which was supposed to be started in the 3rd week! But i guess its never too late and our work is going on pretty good! I am loving the idea of creating the hauz khas street in the way of a model. The process of making the buildings is pretty interesting as it requires alot of techniques and it has to be done using perspective, by doing all this we are able to learn to create building in a 3D way which i have personally never done before so i am a little bit more excited about it! 

And side by side i am working on my micro too which is choosing an opportunity area and start working on that. 

I have not yet come up with the design intervention but i have doddled a lot of ideas and will soon come up with one!

                                     OBSERVING THE                                               SOCIAL CULTURE  PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENT !

      The other day we were supposed to sketch which included various things like social culture people , process and system, environment and ambience, material and object.

      But that particular day i only sketched the social culture people which was about what kind of people come there, what age group, culture and for what purpose i.e to shop, to eat, to party or who work over there and all! And also studied the environment of the place and the restaurants and cafe's & art galleries individually too!

       I clicked the pictures to sketch it later on as we could not sit at

a particular place like a cafe and keep doing our work there for hours! 

      Later on i started with sketching the environment and now i have to work on material and object and the process which is carried out in the area!

         ANOTHER VISIT TO HAUZ KHAS VILLAGE

 Hauz Khas Social ,the most famous restaurant at HKV offers really amazing food and has a great ambience,i got to know this from a friend of mine as i have never been to the place before! As we had to discuss the questionnaire so we decided to land up to a place sit over there and discuss it. So we went to social. After discussing the questionnaire we divided ourselves in groups of 4 each to go and interview the people out there! One group decided to interview the shopkeepers,owners,managers etc. & the other one to interview the customers,tourists,visitors and all!

Talking to random people is not my cup of tea so i was a bit nervous before i went to take the first interview, but to my surprise it went pretty good like really good and it gave me the courage to go and talk to people without hesitation. That day my team interviewed 32 people which were of different age groups, culture etc.

The day went pretty good and we collected a lot of data!

                       INTERVIEWS WERE SO MUCH FUN

Next day when we went to hauz khas village we were supposed to talk to people or in other words interview them, so that we land up to some points which are not known. I personally started with some pre field research, studied about HAUZ KHAS,history and about the shops,cafe's,art galleries etc. 

The most interesting part about this module is that we are asked to do something that atleast i have never done before which is talking to random people in a formal amd informal way depending upon whom are we talking to! 

The project is going fun till now and i hope it will be more fun ahead, as we are learning many new things.

               FIRST VISIT TO HAUZ KHAS VILLAGE

First day we were supposed to observe the place so that we can decide our macro. We started of with roaming around the place and clicking picture of everything which  seemed interesting to us. And trust me this was the first time when we explored haus khas village in such a way, where people go to

Hang out and have fun and party we were there for our research process! No matter it was quite interesting as we never thought that we would be observing the place so minutly!

The place is not only about the fort or the clubs or restaurants over there but alot more beyond that which we experienced after going there continuously for so many days! 

We also tasted food from various restaurants which was a treat to our tasting buds! 

Overall it was a great visit but very tiring!

     UHHH SO IT'S HERE AGAIN... ANOTHER MODULE

Just when i thought that it was over and I was done with all the swatches and research it started all over again. Here we enter module 4, which talks about design process and is divided in two parts,i.e. phase 1 and phase 2. Phase 1 is

about selecting a topic as our macro and my group has selected Haus Khas village market place as our topic for group research. After which we have to select a micro for individual research, that is going to be a particular shop or restaurant or an art shop or designer boutique.

OKAY SO TO BE HONEST I NEVER EVER LIKE EVER THOUGHT SOMETHING SO MUCH BEAUTIFUL IS GONNA COME UP AFTER FOLLOWING THIS WONDERFUL PROCESS.! SWATCHES YEAH I FINALLY CREATED THEM USING VARIOUS MATERIAL LIKE FOIL PAPER,THREAD,WIRE,MIRRORS,CLOTH,DIFFERENT TYPE OF SHEETS AND MANY MORE.

AND BELIEVE ME THE PATTERNS THAT CAME OUT WERE SIMPLY AMAZING AND I COULD NOT HAVE EVER THINK OF MYSELF CREATING SUCH BEAUTIFUL STUFF.!

AFTER EXPLORING VARIOUS MOTIFS AND DESIGNS TAKEN FROM THE SET DESIGN OF BAJIRAO MASTANI, I MOVED ON TOWARDS IDEATING THEM THROUGH SKETCHING AND ALSO BY USING DIFFERENT MATERIAL.!
THE MOTIFS I HAVE USED IN THE ABOVE PICTURE ARE PERSIAN AND RAJPUT MOTIFS, AS THESE WERE USED WHILE DESIGNING THE FLOOR ,WALL & CEILING OF MASTANI MAHAL.!

So,as we enter the 2nd phase of module 3 i was in a deep thought that what can be the essence of 'set design of bajirao mastani' and i landed upon an option which is magnificent!

After that i started working on how can i present it. The pictures above are a faint idea of what am i going to do with my theme i.e magnificent, which includes the ideas from my visual book and a lot of inspiration from my boards.

The collage includes some of he pictures which inspired me to create different ideas!

AND now i hope that i will come up with something very different and MAGNIFICENT.!

Sets of bajirao mastani depict a very majestic grandeur and luxurious lifestyle 

during the time of bajirao(peshwa). So all the luxurious  and grand sets of

bajirao mastani depict royality.! 

Purple is the colour that symbolises royality,

 also velvet and silk are considered royal fabrics

 All the pictures i have in my mood board  

are a part of royal lifestyle- like the crown,chandeliars, palace.

And also the royal rides of elephant and camels.!

       THEME,LOOK AND STYLE OF BAJIRAO MASTANI

                          We started the research twelve years back, we came to know that the film is not happening, but later when we came to know that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is making the film, we had to go and approach him, he asked us to show some of our work and he was happy with us. The pre production work to the day we wrapped, it was almost 19 months. We had 19 art assistant directors working, including us the team consists of architects, designers, artist for sketching, props and we had a very good system in place.

 We have succeeded as the production designer as the film looks one. Certain tone was set for the entire film, we used raw fabrics, malmal, Velvet jute, cotton, we customized colour, all the props were made by us. Handmade textures & motifs were used for walls.

 

         Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to treat his audiences to extravagant and colourful sets, luxurious costumes and melodious songs, and the producer/director's magnum opus "Bajrao Mastani" is no different.

Over 20,000 intricately designed mirrors have been used to put the set together. Special karigars from jaipur were summoned to work on the embedding of the mirrors to maintain authenticity. The massive set measures 12,500 sq feet. What’s even more awe inspiring is that one angle of the frame reflects in the 20,000 mirrors.

The grand magnificent set which was built for the ‘Deewani Mastani‘ track from ‘Bajirao Mastani‘ is the grandest thing for director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The track seems inspired by ‘Mughal-E-Azam‘ and its classic song ‘Jab Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya‘.

                                                       SET DESIGN INTRODUCTION

I think Set Design is an important part of almost any theatre production as almost every show will utilise some sort of set,however minimal.
                                                                        Sets can be abstract,realistic or anything in between,and they are a chance of a designer to showcase interesting concepts,new techniques and unusual material.

The set design will ultimately define how the film looks on screen. the use of space, volume,light,colour and texture. Set Design supports and strengthens the story and characters.
